New Series Announcement!
Fellow movie lovers, I have big and exciting news for you. These past few months I’ve been hard at work with my creative team developing a brand new series and keeping it very, very secret. More than once I thought about leaking the news early, but I reminded myself, Alex, good things take time. Art is a flower that only blossoms with patience. Well, now the wait is over and the time is now, so buckle up for Kralie in the Reel World!
This docu-investigation series will follow Alex Kralie, independent filmmaker and pop culture historian, as he shows how important films are to all of us, and the unexpected ways in which the film (”reel”) world collides with our real world.
Where did an idea like this come from? I recently embarked on something of a cinematic tour of Italy. The titles are too numerous to list, but I devoured these minor masterpieces like a heaping plate of pasta and meatballs. However, I found myself still hungry and I had no idea why.
I pondered about the recurring themes. Voyage. Searching. These are powerful words. Magical words. It was already clear to me what I needed to do. I needed to go on a voyage myself. I needed to search. But what I wanted to find was not the best slice of pizza, but instead all the different ways in which film affects us, and vice versa.
Want a taste of what to expect? First up on Kralie in the Reel World, we’re hitting the beach and catching some waves in Seaside, Florida. Why this white-washed and sandy tourist town for the inaugural episode? Let me tell you why. Ever hear of a little motion picture called Jim Carrey’s The Truman Show? How prophetic for a 90’s high concept satire to be about a well-meaning fool oblivious to the fact that he is living in a constant surveillance state, his whole existence a product of late-stage capitalism. Where are we today if not knees-deep in The Truman Show.
I, Alex Kralie (along with my longtime camera collaborator Jay and the rest of the team), are going straight for the thumping heart of the American dream, just like Hunter S. Thompson tried to do in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The big difference here is that I will work with a clarity he could never accomplish in that movie because of all the drugs.
